This is my last post related to the 2-week trip I took to race my bike that culminated with the Amateur Elite national championships. First I’ll give a short race report from the Nationals criterium which was on Sunday. The course was extremely boring to say the least. It was 1 kilometer in length and a perfect square in size. The only really nice thing about the course was it was in downtown Madison and circled the Capitol building. It was pretty scenic in that sense. The race was slated for 80km, so we were going to do 80 laps! I pulled the plug early. I checked out of the race mentally and decided it was safer for me to call it a day rather than endanger myself and the other riders. I found my thoughts being consumed by my family and being home. It hit me hard, I was almost home! We stayed in Madison Sunday night and awoke early Monday to get folks to the airport in Kansas City on time for their flights. Travel went smooth both driving and flying. I got in about 8:00 to San Antonio and had a really nice dinner with my wife. And that was my trip. In my next post I’ll address things I learned while on the trip. That’ll be tomorrow though, don’t want to do too much while I’m on vacation!
